Restaurant description

Peppino's restaurant is Porthmadog's only dining room, restored in early 2009, with its original wooden floor, discovered in late 2009 and dating back to 1862 when the hotel was built. New curtains and lights have been selected to complement the look and the light high-back dining chairs have been added giving a contemporary twist to complete the elegant and stylish appearance.

It has always been our intention to make the Hotel's food the best in Porthmadog, using the finest of Welsh sourced food ingredients, combined with the skills and experience of our chefs.

Its food is included in The Good Food Guide 2011, based on inspection reports and customer recommendations, ranking now with the very best in Gwynedd. Our intention is to be the best in North Wales.

Our own Our style of cooking is seasonal Modern British with a contemporary European twist for the more adventurous. The style of cooking is one which brings out the best in local meats, game, seasonal fish and seafood, focusing on releasing the true flavours of these simple fresh ingredients. Our food is not fussy nor complicated.

There is also a separate classic British Fayre menu, for those who enjoy traditional meals at lunch or in the evening, served in the restaurant, bar, lounge or garden. For children, the hotel has a 'healthy options' menu, cooked to order and only using only fresh ingredients

vegetarian recipes and those with dietary issues are easily catered for as all meals are cooked to order.

Local meats particularly the beef, lamb and Venison; the Belly Pork and home made pies are very popular. Fresh fish is always available and depends on weather conditions as most is line or diver caught.

Executive chef experience and qualifications

Ian Owen took over as Head Chef in May 2011, one of Wales's rising culinary stars and at the age of 25, is one of the youngest chefs to gain two AA Rosettes at his first attempt.

His background experiences include a mixture of working in well known multi rosette and Michelin star kitchens. These include Coed y Mwstwr Hotel, L'Autre Pied (featured on Master Chef) Gordon Ramsay at Claridges and Llansantffraed Court.

He is supported by John Reed, Sous Chef, Welsh Silver Culinary Champion and also from Coed y Mwstwr Hotel, Llion Williams and Robbie Walker, as Commis Chefs.
