Bistrot de Venise (Venice)

San Marco, 4685 - Calle dei Fabbri - Venezia - Italy

lovely restaurant with a very bad Maitre D making the evening unpleasant

My husband and I came here last week end. We've read good reviews about this place, that's why we chose to come here.
We also liked the fact that it opens till late in the evening, so we decided to go, for a quick dinner, on Saturday night at 11.30.

Our server was terribly unfriendly and rude, especially when we told him we weren't having any drinks. First of all I am pregnant, but that’s beside the point- as we don't need to justify, if we want to have alcoholic drinks with our meals!
He kept asking us if we wanted some wine...it was made very obvious by his attitude with the other diners, that he only smiled and complimented the customers who ordered different wines with their meal.

After our Primi and segundi, we asked for the bills, to which we got a big sigh from out Maitre D, who turned his back- tight lips...!

We have had great meals during our trip to Venice, some more expensive, and others cheaper, the service was always very good and friendly, regardless of how much or how little you spend!

I have to say, our waiter's behaviour is not a good reflection of the name of YOUR restaurant and certainly doesn’t match with the good reviews we read.

We were extremely disappointed. For a restaurant who can charge this much from hors d'oeuvres to desserts, the service should be excellent....
Actually, the staff was friendly, BUT NOT our dedicated waiter or Maitre D ( an older gentleman with glasses who was the waiter at the back of the restaurant) was just rude.

I’m reading the other bad reviews on this site, and it seems that this particular waiter is not having good reviews, so please note, we are not difficult customer,
since it seems I am not the only person who feels this way.
Please don’t email me back, and compare the 361 excellent reviews to the 26 poor ones. A review is still a review and shouldn’t be ignored.

The food was good, the venue is very Grand, the staff at reception was friendly, NOT the older waiter who served us – extremely RUDE!
He was so rude, I have had to leave this review. I normally never do, but that was just poor restaurant etiquette!
