Restaurant description

It all began in 1970, when Gaetano Vaccaro and his family left Tramonti, a small village near Salerno, and arrived to Genoa looking for a place to buy.
He found one in Genoa, in Via Canevari and opened a restaurant-pizzeria with fire oven.
In a short period of time it became one of the most visited places in town.
In 1977 the family bought another restaurant in Quinto, and Carmine, the first son, ran the place.
In a couple of years it became the meeting point of many football players of Sampdoria and Genoa.
Then they bought another restaurant, the Ippogrifo, in via Gestro (www.ristoranteippogrifo.it),
situated near the Fiera di Genova and run by Giulio, Gaetano’ second son.
Some years later the family sold the restaurant in via Canevari, Giovanni went to Ippogrifo with Giulio, and Antonio went to Piedigrotta with Carmine. At the Piedigrotta the client feels at home.
The restaurant is pleasant and bright, thanks to the big windows overlooking the sea.
The cooking, based on first quality products, it is very simple not to hide the real tastes and the plates are matched by wines, which can be selected in the menu and in the window-shop.
In the dining room, you can see, placed on a fridge, the daily fish, which serving is especially made by Antonio and Carmine.
The fish is used, for example, to make a fresh and raw antipasto.
The buying of the food sources is very meticulous: fresh pasta and sweets are directly made by Carmine and Antonio’s hands. Dried pasta is hand made and comes from Campania.
The daily fish comes from Santa Margherita and Chiavari’s markets and meat is selected from Chianina’s race.
When spring comes a big terrace is opened and it is possible to have dinner listening to the sound of the sea waves that break onto the rocks, and watching the wonderful landscape of the Promontorio di Portofino and Capo Mele.
We would like to say thanks to our father Gaetano: he thought us everything and shared all his love for this job during all these years with us.
